- combination is given for Haemophilus mucosal infections (whereas ceftriaxone is for meningitis and rifampin prophylaxis for close contacts)
- Ampicillin can be part of the combo therapy for endometritis (gentamicin + clindamycin ± ampicillin); particularly when you suspect listeria
