Rationale for new note
Patients with myasthenic crisis with worsenign condition should be offered {{c1::elective}} {{c2::intubation}}
Bulbar weakness can cause {{c1::drooling}} from the mouth (eg. in MG)
Pyridostigmine (acetylcholinesterase inhibitor) is sometimes used to treat mild MG exacerbations, and it {{c1::is not::is or is not}} effective for severe crises with respiratory impairment.
Text
A myasthenic {{c1::crisis}} is often precipitated by acute illness (eg, infection) and involves rapidly worsening weakness affecting respiratory muscles (eg, diaphragm). Due to inability to recruit weakened accessory muscles, respiratory distress may not be evident on examination. {{c2::Elective}} intubation should be offered to patients with impending respiratory failure (eg, respiratory acidosis, falling vital capacity).
