What is the recommended<b> treatment regimen</b> for uncomplictaed <u>pharyngeal</u> <i>Neisseria gonorrhoeae</i> infection?<br><br>{{c1::Ceftriaxone IM stat <u><i>AND</i></u> Azithromycin PO stat}}
Extra
- Alternative treatments are not recommended because of high levels of resistance, EXCEPT for some remote Australian locations and severe allergic reactions (see below)
- Both Therapeutic Guidelines and STI Guidelines agree on the drugs
- TG suggests Ceftriaxone can be given IV or IM, STI guidelines recommend IM in 2 mL 1% lignocaine
- The same drugs are used for anorectal/genital infection, but doses change
