What is the next step in management of necrotizing enterocolitis with peritoneal signs?

{{c1::Emergent laparotomy}}
Extra
- Necrotizing enterocolitis requires surgery if there is evidence of peritonitis, perforation, metabolic acidosis, elevated lactate, and/or portal venous gas on x-ray
- The severity of the symptoms can indicate that an emergent exploratory laparotomy is required to remove affected portions of the bowel.
