Glyceryl Trinitrate converts to nitric oxide (NO) in the body. NO increases cellular cGMP which inhances calcium reuptake into the sarcoplastic reticulum and increases extracellular calcium. This results in dephosphorylation of myosin resulting in relaxation of smooth muscles in blood vessels, resulting in vasodilation.
