Rationale for change
V/Q increase does not CAUSE alveolar deads space. The creation of alveolar dead space itself is what increases V/Q in that area

- Results in bronchoconstriction and fall in surfactant production
- An embolism causes dead space in the area of the embolism itself, but across the entire lung, there is a decreased V/Q ratio overall. This is due to very increased flow (↑ Q) in other areas of the lung. Thus, the end result is hypoxemia (dead space does not cause hypoxemia)
