As per B&B - Renal - Metabolic Acidosis, delta-delta ratio is only used for elevated anion gap metabolic acidosis

If <1 = (HCO3- is too low)
- Concomitant 2° normal AG metabolic acidosis

If >2 = (HCO3- is too high)
- Concomitant 2° metabolic alkalosis
- OR pre-existing chronic respiratory acidosis (due to compensatory HCO3- increase)
