In the absence of unequivocal symptomatic hyperglycemia, the diagnosis of diabetes must be confirmed by repeat measurement, repeating the same or a different test for confirmation. However, if two different tests (eg, fasting plasma glucose and A1C) are available and are concordant for the diagnosis of diabetes, additional testing is not needed [23]. If two different tests are discordant, the test that is diagnostic of diabetes should be repeated to confirm the diagnosis [24].
