What the septum secundum actually is
During atrial septation:
Septum primum
Grows downward from the roof of the primitive atrium
Eventually fuses with the endocardial cushions
Septum secundum
Forms to the right of the septum primum
Also grows from the atrial roof
Leaves an opening called the Foramen Ovale
So:
Septum secundum = fold of atrial wall, not derived from the sinus venosus.
