Rationale for change
Clostridium perfringens causes fast-onset diarrhea (6–24 hours, usually 8–12) because although you may ingest spores, they germinate and sporulate very quickly in the small intestine. During this rapid sporulation process, the organism produces its enterotoxin (CPE), which immediately triggers watery diarrhea. Unlike true slow-onset pathogens that take days to invade or damage the gut, C. perfringens generates toxin within hours of ingestion, so symptoms appear rapidly despite the mechanism involving spores.
