The metaphysis is not the growth plate--the physis is the growth plate. It is true that the physis during childhood resides in the metaphysis, but as a person ages, it disappears. AMBOSS states that osteochondroma is a "bony outgrowth (exostosis) with a cartilaginous cap on the surface of long bones ADJACENT to growth plates," and that it is "typically located in the METAPHYSIS of long bones."
