NBME 13, Section 4, Question 39 says exactly the opposite- if the patient presentation has clear clinical signs of appendicitis with no competing differential, further imaging should not delay treatment. Per NBME:
"However, further confirmation of diagnosis with a CT scan or ultrasonography should not delay operative intervention in a patient with a clear clinical diagnosis of appendicitis and no other source of fever with a negative urinalysis. This patient presents with clear features of appendicitis and no clear competing diagnosis; the best next step is operative intervention."
