Rationale for change
All patients aged 40-75+ with diabetes should be started on statin therapy, regardless of LDL levels. A patient with LDL > 190 should be started on a high-intensity statin regardless of underlying diabetes and regardless of age (if they are > 75 years old, moderate-intensity statins may be considered). However, a diabetic patient with an LDL < 190 would usually be started on a moderate intensity statin (unless there are other risk factors)
