Rationale for change
The 8 week cessation period is no longer a norm. UpToDate talks about this, and this was mentioned in the updated OME videos (I don't have his references).

I am not sure what the actual change should be since it does not seem there is a set standard, but it sounds like we are no longer barring patients from surgery until 8 weeks of smoking cessation. I'm guessing it will be a department/institutional policy for now. If someone can find a better time frame, please comment.
