Tertiary syphilis and neurosyphilis are not the same thing, as suggested by the text and extra information in this card. Per AMBOSS, neurosyphilis "can occur at any stage of infection". Understanding that neurosyphilis can be a patient's initial presentation, and not necessarily the sequelae of longstanding syphilis infection, is crucial.
