- Fructose is a reducing sugar but does not react on a glucose-specific dipstick
- Urine dipstick tests detect only glucose, so fructose in urine goes undetected (negative result)
- Copper reduction test detects all reducing sugars (glucose, fructose, galactose, etc.), so it will be positive in hereditary fructose intolerance
