- PPSV23 is typically given 6 - 12 months later unless immunocompromised (give ≥ 8 weeks later)
- PPSV23 alone no longer recommended (per ACIP, Oct 2021 update – reaffirmed June 2025)
- Use PCV20 when possible for simplicity (one dose, no follow-up needed)
- No additional vaccine at age 50 is needed if PCV20 was already given
- This card previously asked about the indication for PPSV23 alone; however, current CDC guidelines no longer recommend the use of PPSV23 alone (June 2025)
