Rationale for change
Bulimia is most notably associated with sialadenosis (sometimes called sialosis), not with parotitis. In individuals with bulimia, repeated self‐induced vomiting can lead to a noninflammatory, non-neoplastic swelling of the salivary glands—most commonly the parotid glands. This enlargement, which is painless and typically bilateral, results from the chronic stimulation of the glands rather than from an infectious or inflammatory process (which would be the case in parotitis).
