- Destroyed platelets release TXA2/ADP causing thrombocytopenia (mucosal bleeding, petechiae, ecchymoses)
- Hemosiderinuria is seen days after hemolysis, hemoglobinuria can lead to renal failure
- Predominantly intravascular, but can be extravascular (C3 fragments can act as opsonin)
- Venous thrombosis appears in unusual locations (portal, mesenteric, cerebral veins)
