This card previously said "contraindicated in women of childbearing potential" which while partially correct, does not fully represent the information on AMBOSS on misoprostol contraindications.
AMBOSS directly states that it is contraindicated in:
"Pregnant women (when used to reduce the risk of NSAIA-induced gastric ulcers)."
As well as those with a known hypersensitivity to prostaglandins. Stating that misoprostol should be contraindicated in all patients with childbearing potential is too broad of a statement and may result in medical students (or even residents) not considering it when treating patients that have child-bearing capacity resulting in reduced patient outcomes and quality of care.
Furthermore, it is important for students to fully understand why or why not to use misoprostol with pregnant patients for the purposes of the USMLE Step 1 as well as to create a more well-rounded medical knowledge overall.
