Rationale for change
Early follicular phase: Estradiol has a negative feedback effect on the hypothalamus and anterior pituitary, leading to inhibition of FSH and LH secretion. This helps ensure that only a few follicles develop.
Late follicular phase: As estradiol levels rise significantly due to the growing dominant follicle, it switches to exert a positive feedback effect on the hypothalamus and pituitary. This results in a surge of LH (and to a lesser extent FSH), which triggers ovulation.
