Rationale for change

the papilledema is contralateral according to amboss but the card makes it seems like the optic nerve atrophy and papilledema are both ipsilateral

Foster-Kennedy syndrome is associated with any tumor of the frontal lobe, not just meningioma

- If you see: (1) anosmia, (2) ipsilateral atrophy of optic nerve, and (3) contralateral papilledema, think of a tumor of the frontal lobe causing a mass effect

- Emotional lability may also be present (frontal lobe sign)

- Treatment: removal of tumor. Add dexamethasone to treat the increased intracranial pressure while waiting for surgery

**Explanation of why you see ipsilateral atrophy of optic nerve, but contralateral papilledema: a frontal lobe tumor compresses and destroys the optic nerve on one side before causing increased intracranial pressure. Later, the damaged nerve does not swell. This gives rise to optic atrophy in one eye and disc edema in the other

Papilledema is almost universally bilateral (usually due to increased intracranial pressure), but not in this case!
