"Less than 8 that means intubate" is an old ED/trauma surgery dogma for when to intubate a trauma patient and does not apply to every patient. You don't intubate every patient with a GCS less than 8.
I was an ED tech for a few years during undergrad and fulltime during gap year. It's an easy to remember saying but shouldn't even be applied to every trauma patient because it can increase length of stay.
BUT for test questions trauma patient with GCS < 8 you should intubate in preparation for potential respiratory collapse.
