Rationale for change
As it's originally written is misleading because a hallmark of carpal tunnel syndrome is parathesias, loss of sensation, and numbness in digits and areas innervated by the median nerve. It's more correct to say that this loss of sensation, however, spares the palmar surface of the thenar eminence (even though motor innervation to the thenar eminence is affected) since sensory innervation to this area originates proximal to the carpal tunnel.
