Collecting duct spans both the cortical (cortex) as well as the medullary (medulla) portions of the kidney.
Responsive to both aldosterone and ADH.
ADH is released when blood pressure or blood volume is low, which then makes collecting ducts permeable to water so the body retains more water.
When a person is well hydrated or has normal blood volume, ADH will be low and the collecting ducts will be impermeable to water.
