Rationale for change
If we are going to use acronyms on learning cards, in a field of study that is flooded with acronyms, we should at least be teaching what the acronyms represent.

- Acute colonic pseudo-obstruction (Ogilvie syndrome) typically presents with severe abdominal distension, pain, vomiting, and obstipation (complete inability to pass stool or gas)
- Etiology: electrolyte imbalance (e.g., hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia); autonomic disruption of the colon (e.g., major surgery, neurologic disease, anticholinergic medication)
- Diagnosis: CT scan showing colonic dilation without anatomic obstruction
- Treatment: bowel rest and colonic decompression ± intravenous neostigmine
