- Ceftriaxone → hyperbilirubinemia, so use cefotaxime
- Vancomycin → highly resistant pneumococcus
Empiric abx for children with suspected sepsis
- 0–1 month: Ampicillin + Gent or Cefotaxime
- 3 month: Ampicillin + Cefotaxime
- 3 month–3 years: Cefotaxime
- 3 years–adult: Cefotaxime
- If > 1 month, add vancomycin if meningitis is suspected
- Long story short: cefotaxime is a good answer for sepsis
