Rationale for change
Had a very extensive discussion with a pediatric infectous disease doctor this past week regarding maternal breastfeeding in HIV+ patients. She informed me of the updated guidelines which say that HIV status is no longer an absolute contraindication to breastfeed as long as the viral load is low <50, and the mother is adherent to ART.
I linked the CDC/ HIV info website on the topic in the suggestion. Doubtful a Step 2 form in the next few months will have a question involving this but may be worth adjusting the card to reflet current guidelines.
