Rationale for change
The 2021 AASM guideline for the treatment of central disorders of hypersomnolence makes no recommendation regarding the role of SSRIs and SNRIs because of a lack of conclusive evidence. The recommendation in the 2021 European guideline on narcolepsy management to consider antidepressants for the treatment of cataplexy, sleep paralysis, and hypnagogic hallucinations is based on low-quality evidence.
