Per USPSTF guidelines, screening starting at age 40 has the potential to save ~20% more lives from breast cancer among all women (compared to prior guidelines, which recommended starting at age 50)

Previous USPSTF guidelines (prior to 2024):
- 50 - 74 years: screen every 2 years
- ≥ 75 years: no recommendations
- 40 - 50 years: women with several risk factors (e.g., early menarche, nulliparity) or a first-degree relative who has had breast cancer
