Orthopedic examination>Tests for collateral ligaments>Valgus stress test and varus stress test

Valgus stress test is described as a medial directed (vector) force originating from the lateral side of the knee. In otherwords, the vector is medial, the origin is lateral in respect to the knee. See above amboss article for definition of the valgus stress.

Knee ligament injuries>Knee ligament injuries> cruciate ligament injuries > ACL injury > Mechanism of injury

Here it states that in a high velocity injury to the ACL the force is a valgus stress. Therefore using the earlier description we can see that a high velocity injury to the ACL is caused by a medially vectored force from the lateral side of a planted knee.

!!: some sources reference an ACL injury as a lateral force. However they are confusingly referencing the origin instead of force vector. +clarity
