Pattern of joint involvement and clinical symptoms of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) with severe extra-articular manifestations
- Systemic JIA (Still disease): fever (thermometer), lymphadenopathy (green lymph nodes), serositis (serosa of the lungs, abdomen, and heart), splenomegaly and hepatomegaly (enlarged liver and spleen), transient exanthema (rash on arm)
- Psoriatic JIA: psoriasis (rash on leg)
- Enthesitis-related JIA: associated with chronic inflammatory bowel disease (inflamed intestine), may progress to ankylosing spondylitis (red lumbar region), enthesitis (red circles)
- The most common patterns of joint involvement are circled in red. If associated with uveitis, the eyes are shown; bilateral involvement is common in psoriatic JIA, while unilateral flare-ups are common in enthesitis-related JIA.
