Rationale for change
I think this is important to add, and is stated directly in the UWorld explanation: "Lumbar puncture usually shows...normal to slightly elevated protein concentration (generally 100 mg/dL)"
I have also seen other situations/questions of aseptic meningitis/HSV encephalitis where the protein is normal.
Source: UWorld - Step 2 3003
Rejection reason
Explanation says normal to elevated, but chart says increased, and AMBOSS also agrees that is elevated

Extra

- Viral encephalitis = viral meningitis for CSF findings (cells, glucose, protein) + RBCs; RBCs secondary to temporal lobe hemorrhage
- PCR analysis of HSV DNA in CSF (highly sensitive + specific) is gold standard for diagnosis (replacing brain biopsy)
- Treatment is IV acyclovir
