- Although children with mild-to-moderate VUR (grade I-II) are at low risk for pyelonephritis, young children (< 5 years) who may not be toilet trained / sufficiently verbal to communicate symptoms require prophylactic antibiotics
- Children > 5 years with grade I-II VUR may be managed with observation alone
- Children with grade III-IV VUR receive prophylactic antibiotics regardless of age
- Children > 5 years with grade I-II VUR may be managed with observation alone
- Children with grade III-IV VUR receive prophylactic antibiotics regardless of age
