Okay so notably there are some conflicting guidelines here
RANZCOG says for Australia:
All patients should be offered an US before 20 weeks & their 20 week morphology scan
They also say:
NZ recommends 12 - 13+6 weeks for the first scan followed by the 20wk morphology scan
However!
Queensland Health's own website goes by what I have written on this card AND it is more up to date having been last updated in:
12/09/2025
As opposed to the RANZCOG guideline for routine antenatal assessment in the absence of pregnancy complications which (while great) is only current to 2022 and will be due for review in 2027.
honestly from my perspective this seems like as long as you give them an initial one and the morphology scan it's kind of dealer's choice whether to do the third one???
Yield-wise: I put it as LY because I think it's LY for medical students. I think it's moderate to HY for anyone interning in O&G or even GP as this seems quite pimpable
{{c1::8–9 weeks dating scan}}
{{c1::11–13 weeks 1st trimester scan}}
{{c1::18–20 weeks morphology scan}}
- Notably, RANZCOG only recommends 1 US before 20 weeks followed by the 20 week morphology scan
- Further ultrasounds may be warranted as clinically indicated
