Rationale for change

Source: UWorld Step 3 Question Id: 6247

"Although early studies indicated that aspiration pneumonia was often due to anaerobic infection, more recent data suggest anaerobes are present in a small minority of cases. Therefore, guidelines do not recommend empiric coverage against anaerobes for those with aspiration pneumonia unless empyema or lung abscess is present. Instead, patients should be treated with antibiotics that target community-acquired pneumonia pathogens (when the event takes place in the outpatient setting). "
